The curriculum for year one children and year two children is carefully planned to build on prior knowledge and skills. It incorporates whole class teaching, individual teaching and differentiated group work as appropriate.

Teaching our children to become literate and numerate is key to their future success and developing language skills is central to their ability to access the whole curriculum.  In addition they are introduced to a broad, balanced, progressive and creative curriculum designed to stimulate interest, increase their knowledge and give them the opportunity to practise and apply their skills. Children frequently use the outside learning environment including Forest School, the library and regularly use ICT as a tool for learning. Participating in the arts – music, dance, drama and art and design – provide contexts in which children learn to express their thoughts and emotions, use their imaginations, experiment and develop creativity.

Learning is about making connections and our curriculum is delivered through a programme of topics for each year group, together with themed days and weeks which are planned carefully to appeal and excite all children. We enrich the curriculum through drama and science workshops, visiting theatre groups and authors, music ensembles, educational outings and visits from the local clergy, police and fire service giving children’s learning an added dimension.
