In their first half term at school, Yellow Ladybirds have been learning how to be good listeners and using ‘Give me 5!’ to develop their behaviours for learning. Becoming more familiar with their environment and their new peers has been key, so children have had lots of opportunities to explore inside and out as they develop relationships with key adults and children in all Ladybird classes. Our topic ‘All about Me’ has encouraged us to share information about ourselves, including facts about our families and where we live. We also know more about how to be a good friend and to consider the feelings of others. Tuning into sounds in our environment has been the first step in our phonics journey as we start to learn letters sounds and have a go at forming letter shapes. Mostly, we have been having a lot of fun!
In Yellow Ladybirds, this term we have been enjoying learning through our topic; ‘Fall into a Fairytale’. We have been learning to listen actively, understand what has been read to us and join in with refrains. Retell stories and narratives, taking turns to act out different roles. Anticipate key events in stories, predicting what might come next. Make use of props and materials when role playing characters in narratives and stories. Use and understand recently introduced vocabulary during discussions about stories and in our role-play. Compare characters and settings from stories, making links to the past and sharing our own ideas.
