Blue Ladybirds

Welcome to Blue Ladybirds

Autumn Term 1

In Blue Ladybirds we have had a fabulous first half term! We have enjoyed getting to grips with phonics and learning the first few sounds. We have thoroughly enjoyed our introduction to PE and been practising rolling and chasing a ball, balancing beanbags and working on our balance, co-ordination and agility. We have learned about maps and practised drawing maps of our school and what is close by. These were made into 3D maps, adding props, buildings and people. We are able to access our provision confidently and are enjoying many learning opportunities in the home corners, junk modelling and mark making.

Finally, we have been lucky enough to have a visit from an owl expert, who brought along Zarzu the African owl. He was tiny and likes mice worms and in the wild he would eat scorpions. We saw Eileen the long eared owl. They are nick named squeaky gate owls because of the noise they make! We also saw a barn owl called Haze! Barn owls like to live in barns to stay hidden and protected in the beams. The children listened brilliantly and some asked great questions.

Autumn Term 2

In Blue Ladybirds this half term we have enjoyed immersing ourselves into the story of Little Red. We have listened and retold the story, created a story mountain, acted it out and even tasted some ginger squash, which was similar to the ginger beer that Little Red tastes in the story. We have been working hard to learn the songs for the Christmas performance, particularly the one we are got to dance to, too! We loved performing for you all. Our brains have grown so much this term and we have been taught all of the set 1 phonics sounds, ready for our new groups in January!!

Spring Term 1

In Blue Ladybirds this half term we have been so busy!! In PE we have been working on throwing and catching, and we were lucky enough to have a gymnastics workshops delivered to us from Future Gymnastics School.

We thoroughly enjoyed Cultural Cooking week, were we enjoyed trying and tasting many different foods from different cultures. We tried Brazilian cheese bread 'Pão de queijo'. It was delicious!! We also tried some Plantain Chips which are a popular snack in the Caribbean and West Africa! We tried both salted and unsalted flavours.

Finally, we enjoyed sweet tahini buns which come from Limassol in Cyprus. Whilst Learning about The Magic Paintbrush and Chinese New Year we enjoed trying and tasting noodles with soy sauce and prawn crackers!

In maths we have been Stampolining and make combinations of 4 and 5 and at the start of the term we enjoyed Creative Arts week and learning about the artist Henri Rousseau and we had a special visit from an artist too!!
